HealthNet TPO expresses its deep concern about the damage to its Trauma Center at the Torkham border crossing during the fighting between Afghan and Pakistani forces on 27 February 2026.
The HealthNet TPO–supported facility sustained damage from indirect fire while providing life‑saving medical care to civilians.
One staff member was injured in the incident and received treatment at the centre. Incidents that affect medical facilities and healthcare personnel have serious consequences for the continuity of essential health services.
Medical facilities and humanitarian staff are protected under International Humanitarian Law. They must never be targeted, and all parties to the conflict have a legal and moral obligation to ensure their protection.
HealthNet TPO calls on all parties to the conflict to fully respect these obligations and to take all feasible measures to protect civilians and ensure safe and uninterrupted access to emergency medical care.
HealthNet TPO remains committed to continuing the provision of essential, life-saving health services for the people of Afghanistan, wherever these are most needed.
