Our mission

Our mission is to support and strengthen communities affected by conflict or disaster so they may regain control of their own health and wellbeing.

Our vision

We envision a world in which people living in fragile and conflict settings actively rebuild their lives, health and wellbeing. We believe even the most vulnerable people have the inner strength to (re)build a better future for themselves and those around them.

Our values

Passionate

We are motivated and enthusiastic to achieve our mission. We have team-spirit and are able to express our common vision, share experiences and success.

Integrity

We conduct our work in an honest, transparent and ethical manner. We are open and communicate in an accessible way to reach our stakeholders.

People-centred

We treat each individual as a person with respect and dignity, regardless of ethnicity, gender, religion, age or any other distinctive feature. We give agency to people and support them to improve their own lives.

Evidence-based

We have a scientific approach and our interventions are based on research. We always strive for the best, expand our horizons and act on new possibilities for improvements. We share our knowledge, are accurate, consistent and context-specific.

Professional

We have the required expertise, able to express our limitations, show respect to our colleagues and external stakeholders, and act according to the HealthNet TPO standards and procedures.

Outspoken

We are assertive and express our authentic opinion, criticising ourselves and our colleagues constructively, aiming at the constant improvement of ourselves, our practices, and the ones of our partners.

Our story

1992

Establishment of HNI

'HealthNet International' (HNI) was established in 1992 by members of Doctors Without Borders (MSF) who wanted to bridge the gap between emergency aid and long-term structural development.

1994

Healthcare in Afghanistan

In 1994 started our Afghanistan journey, significantly improving the healthcare system. We stood by communities in emergencies, fostering enduring partnerships and resilient healthcare solutions.

2005

Merger of HNI and TPO

In 2005, the merger of HNI and TPO marked a pivotal shift. By combining HNI's expertise in health system strengthening with TPO's focus on mental health and psychosocial support, the newly formed HealthNet TPO introduced holistic initiatives.

2010

Empowering communities

HealthNet TPO decides to commit to localisation, empowering communities to take the lead to address their own needs more effectively, ensuring that the support they receive is tailored to their unique circumstances and priorities.

2024-2028

Moving forward

Building on our strengths, HealthNet TPO's 2024-2028 strategy focuses on integrating mental health and psychosocial support into our projects, improving health service access for vulnerable groups, and addressing the growing global need for humanitarian assistance.
