With additional €5 million support from the European Union, HealthNet TPO prolongs and expands its programme in addressing mental health and psychosocial needs of people, and in particular women and children in Afghanistan. The programme is improving access to and quality of mental health services in Afghanistan, including support at community levels and at schools.

I am tremendously pleased that with this additional funding the EU can, together with HealthNetTPO, support an alarmingly large population that suffers from mental health and psychosocial conditions including school children.” - Raffaella Iodice, EU Chargée d’Affaires and Deputy Head at the EU Delegation to Afghanistan.

Four decades of conflict and the recent political changes in Afghanistan have further escalated the complexities and dire needs of the population in all sectors of life, including mental health and psychosocial wellbeing. This new project will address the critical needs to fill the gaps in public health services. Through this partnership with the EU, I am confident that HealthNet TPO will address the pressing mental health issues in the country. We will work collaboratively with the key stakeholders, especially the WHO to achieve the set targets.” - Dr. Naseem, HealthNet TPO Head of Mission in Afghanistan.

The initiative will enhance the availability of mental health services in pivotal service delivery points across Afghanistan, filling gaps in care.

The EU’s assistance to Afghanistan addresses notably the most vulnerable segments of the population, including women, girls, minorities, internally displaced persons and refugees. EU aid is channelled through United Nations agencies or non-governmental organisations.
